Backlink Results After 7 days…

Hey fellow MWA 3.0 students. I would like to share my current statistics, regarding my backlinking efforts.

My case study began:

On 05-17-10, my Alexa ranking was 430,102 with a Page Rank of “unrated”. I created and submitted 3 articles to Ezine Articles.
On 05-19-10, I created and submitted 3 more articles to Ezine Artcles.
On 05-20-10, an Alexa ranking of 399,809 with a Page Rank of “unrated”. I made 1 blog post and 6 forum comments.

On 05-25-10, an Alexa ranking of 336,797 with a Page Rank of “0″. I created five PR5-7 profile backlinks and 3 blog comments. Used a backlink Submission Assistant that was absolutely useless.
On 05-26-10, an Alexa ranking of 335,870 with a Page Rank of “0″.
On 05-27-10, an Alexa ranking of 333,070 with a Page Rank of “0″. Created two PR6 profile backlinks.
On 05-28-10, an Alexa ranking of 312, 195 with a Page Rank of “0″. Created four PR6-7 profile backlinks and 2 blog postings.

NOTE: I’ve used “Profile Backlinks”, with the understanding that they take longer to show up in the search engines than regular backlinks. However, these are high PR backlinks that create sustainability (.edu and .org). Investment of $40 to date.

RESULTS: improved Alexa rankings and a slight Page Rank improvement from “unranked” to PR0.

COMMENTS: I am happy with current results. Expect to see PR improvement in 2 weeks.

To my valued readers: I welcome your feedback and suggestions or questions.

Are Backlinks The Lifeblood Of Search Engine Ranking?

Also referred to as inbound links, backlinks are definitely the lifeblood of Search Engines Ranking. Backlinks are links on one website that lead back to another website. For a website to be ranked high in search engines like Google, the website must contain a significant number of backlinks. However, this SEO element can be deceiving at best.

Considerable thought must be given to the quality on the backlink. If the website that is receiving the backlinks gets high quality and high page rank backlinks, the chance of being indexed to a high position on the Search Engines increase significantly. Bottom line: it’s better to have ten PR 9 backlinks, than one hundred PR3 backlinks.

There are many strategies used to locate and create high quality and high PR backlinks. Some people advocate writing and submitting articles, posting on forums, making comments on blogs. Others talk about submitting their website to various Internet directories. One directory that has an excellent reputation is called DMOZ, also know as the “Open Directory”. DMOZ websites have been placed there by human editors; there is no “automation” to this directory. The only drawback is that this directory takes so long to have a website added.

Another way to build backlinks, is to use Social Bookmarking websites. A “Social Bookmark” is a website that generally has a very popular ‘community’ aspect to it. Users sign up and create profiles on the sites that contain photos and information about themselves. They then can save “bookmarks” of favorite websites which can be sorted by ‘tags’, which are one or two keyword phrases, and these bookmarks can be saved to a personal list or can be listed publicly.

With the advent of what is known as Web 2.0, gaining backlinks is easier now than in any time in the history of the internet. Most sites now have an “interactive” quality to them nowadays. Readers can often sign in and create profiles. They then are often allowed to post comments on the stories or articles on the website or blog. In many cases, the website or blog owner responds to these comments; thus making this section of the website or blog a conversation.

What Is Alexa Ranking And How Does It Affect You?

I received a lot of comments about my Alexa rankings and I sense that marketers are overlooking the importance of this statistic. I attempted to write about it however, I found an article that summarizes my thoughts and hits on the critical components of this topic.

Alexa.com defines themselves as “the web information company,” but to webmasters and bloggers, they are so much more. Essentially, Alexa is a company that measures web traffic on almost every website on the internet through their increasingly popular toolbar plugin. This becomes an important element in leveraging your blog’s ranking as a sell point to advertisers, sponsors, buyers, readers and whoever else wants a piece of your material. READ MORE…

The Use Of Back Links to Boost My Web Traffic And Page Rankings…

In today’s highly competitive Internet Marketing business, the benefits of backlinks have never been more important in terms of online visibility and traffic. Having your website or blog, ranked high with search engines is an integral part to becoming successful online. The importance of backlinks are often overlooked by many marketers. I would like to take a moment to discuss the topic backlinks.

Backlinks: Simplified

Simply put, backlinks are exactly what their name suggests – a link that directs itself back to your website. This link could be from any website on the internet however, careful thought must be exercised to reap the greatest benefits from your back linking efforts and to avoid the dreadful wrath of Google. Keep in mind the phrase “guilty by association”, as you read on.

Backlinks provide a host of benefits, when done correctly and strategically. The more links a website has coming into it, the more authoritive and popular it looks to the search engines. Thus improving the search engine rankings, which as we all know is one of the main targets for any business website owner. Additionally, backlinks act as a conduit to a network of contacts – if people are reading something on one website and they see your link, they will usually check out your site to at least see what’s there. This could lead to new customers or sales if you’re a business. Consequently, if you are backlinked to low PR sites or non-related web sites the results could be devastating to your business.

Backlinks and Relevancy

Although backlinks offer an invaluable way to promote traffic to your website, exercise careful thought when using them. Beware of backlink sites that promise you “tons of visitors” to your website- especially those that claim to do it in a short period of time, as they are more likely than not spamming sites.

Instead, seek out authority web sites or “High PR” sites to gain the greatest benefits. Despite the search engines offering higher placement for the more links a site has, the relevance of the link must be the major consideration. For example, if you have a website that promotes weight loss, you don’t really need a Bakery linking to you. If you are actively building backlinks to your rank your site, stay on the right side of the search engines, especially Google. Search out the websites and blogs that complement your own website.

To Increase The Traffic To This Blog…

My goal is to build 40-50 quality backlinks, over the next 2-3 weeks, linking to high PR (5-9) websites. During this process, I will be submitting 15 backlinks manually (to fully understand the process) and 35 backlinks using an auto submission software package, and compiling comparative data.  I will also be testing a “Backlink Booster”, to verify or bust the software developers claims of boosting backlink effectiveness by 1000%. I will be posting my results as a case study in this blog.

As you can see, backlinks are a crucial part of any traffic-building exercise for website or blog owners. Use them properly and be diligent, when it comes to who links back to you. The benefits of backlinks are “evergreen” (a term coined by Alex Jeffery’s).
