In today’s highly competitive Internet Marketing business, the benefits of backlinks have never been more important in terms of online visibility and traffic. Having your website or blog, ranked high with search engines is an integral part to becoming successful online. The importance of backlinks are often overlooked by many marketers. I would like to take a moment to discuss the topic backlinks.
Simply put, backlinks are exactly what their name suggests – a link that directs itself back to your website. This link could be from any website on the internet however, careful thought must be exercised to reap the greatest benefits from your back linking efforts and to avoid the dreadful wrath of Google. Keep in mind the phrase “guilty by association”, as you read on.
Backlinks provide a host of benefits, when done correctly and strategically. The more links a website has coming into it, the more authoritive and popular it looks to the search engines. Thus improving the search engine rankings, which as we all know is one of the main targets for any business website owner. Additionally, backlinks act as a conduit to a network of contacts – if people are reading something on one website and they see your link, they will usually check out your site to at least see what’s there. This could lead to new customers or sales if you’re a business. Consequently, if you are backlinked to low PR sites or non-related web sites the results could be devastating to your business.
Although backlinks offer an invaluable way to promote traffic to your website, exercise careful thought when using them. Beware of backlink sites that promise you “tons of visitors” to your website- especially those that claim to do it in a short period of time, as they are more likely than not spamming sites.
Instead, seek out authority web sites or “High PR” sites to gain the greatest benefits. Despite the search engines offering higher placement for the more links a site has, the relevance of the link must be the major consideration. For example, if you have a website that promotes weight loss, you don’t really need a Bakery linking to you. If you are actively building backlinks to your rank your site, stay on the right side of the search engines, especially Google. Search out the websites and blogs that complement your own website.
My goal is to build 40-50 quality backlinks, over the next 2-3 weeks, linking to high PR (5-9) websites. During this process, I will be submitting 15 backlinks manually (to fully understand the process) and 35 backlinks using an auto submission software package, and compiling comparative data. I will also be testing a “Backlink Booster”, to verify or bust the software developers claims of boosting backlink effectiveness by 1000%. I will be posting my results as a case study in this blog.
As you can see, backlinks are a crucial part of any traffic-building exercise for website or blog owners. Use them properly and be diligent, when it comes to who links back to you. The benefits of backlinks are “evergreen” (a term coined by Alex Jeffery’s).

Great post, TAlex. Shame that I had to miss last night’s coaching session. Did Alex address the issue of nofollow links and WordPress blogs? All links on Wordpress blogs are nofollow, UNLESS you activate a Dofollow plugin.
How do you identify PR 5 to 9 sites?
Keep up the good work. I look forward to the analysis of your results. Good luck.

Hi Darren,
Thanks for stopping by again and reading my posts. I really appreciate it. By the way, I think you did a heck of a job on your first video. One of the hardest things for anyone to do is, “stepping out of our comfort zones”. Keep up the great progress.
